We suggest parents and caregivers book their child’s first dental visit by age one, or when their first tooth erupts. Although this may seem very early, this first visit is just so we can take a quick look inside their mouth and enables our dentists to see if everything is developing normally. We know it can be difficult to clean a very young child’s mouth, so our dentists or our dental therapist can chat to you about the best way to do this and we will advise you on the best type of toothpaste to use.
As your child gets older, these regular check-ups are great for ensuring any problems are picked up at an early stage when we can treat them more easily and with minimal discomfort for your child. Dental x-rays are taken at regular intervals to check for any signs of problems and their frequency will depend on your child’s risk of tooth decay. We will also keep an eye the development of their teeth and jaws and if necessary will recommend an orthodontic evaluation. Our dental therapist can offer advice on oral hygiene and can teach your child how to look after their teeth at home.
Regular check-ups are a simple way to help ensure your child enjoys good dental health, hopefully for life and that they do not develop any fears or phobias. To make an appointment, call us on (02) 9971 8992. Coastal Smiles Dee Why is located at Suite 1, 5 Dee Why Parade, Dee Why NSW 2099.
