Most people have at least one cavity and simply accept tooth decay as being part of life. But did you know there are a few simple things you can do to reduce your risk?
- Stop smoking because smoking makes it easier for decay-causing plaque to stick to your teeth. It is terrible for your gums too!
- Drink more water as it is the best way to stay hydrated. If you currently consume lots of high-sugar or very acidic drinks, switching to water could make all the difference. At the very least rinse your mouth with water after having something sugary or acidic.
- Use an anti-bacterial mouthwash because this will help to reduce the number of bacteria in your mouth after brushing and flossing.
- Brush your teeth regularly, at least twice a day and for two minutes each time. Make sure you use the correct toothbrush and the right brushing techniques. Ask us for more help and advice if you aren’t sure.
- Have your teeth cleaned professionally. Most people need six-monthly cleans to remove plaque and tartar buildup, reducing the risk of tooth decay and leaving your mouth feeling beautifully fresh. Regular cleanings are also great for your gums.
