Dental Health Week takes place each August, and we believe it is a great opportunity to remind the community about the best way to protect their teeth. Simple tips for good oral health include:
- Brush your teeth at least twice daily with fluoridated toothpaste.
- Make sure you floss once-a-day, preferably last thing at night, so you go to sleep with a cleaner mouth, but otherwise, the morning is fine.
- Drink plenty of water, as many of us will wait until we are dehydrated before we will have a drink. Plain water is excellent for hydration, and it helps you to make plenty of saliva. Saliva helps to protect your oral health, ensuring your mouth maintains a neutral pH more easily and neutralising acids that could harm your teeth. Tap water is best, as you don’t need to spend a lot of money on fancy bottled water.
- Keep your consumption of juices and cordials to a minimum. These drinks are often packed with hidden sugars that can damage your teeth.
