If you do need a filling then the first thing we will do is to make sure treatment is as comfortable as possible by carefully numbing your tooth. Once fully numb, our dentist will shape the tooth, removing any decay and infection in preparation for your new filling.
The procedure to place composite resin fillings is technique sensitive as the cavity must be thoroughly dry to make sure the filling material bonds strongly to the tooth. We may place a special lining material in the cavity to help prevent tooth sensitivity and to protect the tooth.
Next, our dentist will select the correct shade of composite resin to ensure an exact match with your natural tooth. The composite resin is placed into the cavity in tiny increments and is regularly hardened or cured until the filling is completed.
By this stage, our dentist will carefully shape the filling and will check your occlusion to make sure the filling feels comfortable when you bite down. Finally, the filling is polished, creating a natural lustre and a restoration that is virtually invisible.
